FIELD TRIP PLANNING TIPS FOR CALIFORNIA STATE PARKS

  • It has been our experience (and probably yours too) that the most successful field trips are planned well in advance.
  • We ask that you submit your Reservation Request Form at least 15 days prior to your arrival. This helps us ensure you are approved for your first choice of date and time. This also allows our ranger and/or docent sufficient time to prepare a quality program.
  • Guided tours must not exceed 30 students.  If you need to bring more than 30 students, please contact us directly so that we can arrange to split your group into two or more smaller groups.
  • Interpretation is provided for a small fee of $15.00 per hour. You do not have to request an interpreter for your field trip. However, having someone with a working knowledge of the local environment can certainly enhance your experience.
  • You must submit a reservation request form even if you do not want an interpreter. Occasionally, visitation is so high that we must limit entry for the protection of the public and the environment. Having submitted your form guarantees your entry on the day of your visit.
  • Dress appropriately. Sandals and flip-flops are ok for the beach but can be dangerous when exploring tidepools. Also remember, even on the warmest days it can often be chilly at the beach.
  • Please discuss ocean safety with your class thoroughly before your trip.
  • Have fun!  A trip to any of our Mendocino area State Parks is sure to be a learning adventure!
