dirisrenyparker50268Wildflower show:  Fresh wildflower show the month of April. Wildflowers will be carefully collected, labeled and added to the exhibit that will be freshened for each weekend in April. Reny Parker,  author/photographer of Wildflowers of Northern California’s Wine Country and North Coast Ranges, a photographic guide to Marin, Sonoma ,Napa and Mendocino  Counties , will have her wildflower photos on exhibit the month of April and May.

Living History Day Saturday, May 3rd, 1pm to 4pm. Native American Games and stories, 19th century lifestyle demonstrations, including butter churning and ice cream making (yes you can have tastes!),costumed characters,

Living History Day 2006Lumber Jack demonstrations, blacksmithing, metalsmithing, weaving and spinning, the Wells Fargo Stage, and more! This event is free to the public, but donations to support the restoration of the Ford House are welcomed and encouraged. Help us to ensure that this historically significant  home is around and thriving in another 150 years!

Friday May 2nd at 4pm, Marianne Hurley, California State Park Architectural Historian: Talk titled “Mendocino Historic District: Handle with Care.”

Across the United States , designated historic districts have experienced growing pains associated with the ongoing pressures of upgrading aging buildings, accommodating accessibility, and providing for economic growth and prosperity.   Decisions made by local communities affect the historical integrity of our districts, and cumulatively affect the long-term viability of historic character, i.e., the same historic character that motivated the original designation. Adaptive re-use, demolition, new construction, and other issues of concern to historic districts will be looked at within the context of overall protection of Mendocino, one of the most scenic and important historic districts along the California coast.   See bio. and photo

Friday May 2nd at 7pm, White Wolf, native American educator, Talk titled:  “Pomo History and Culture.”

Keith White Wolf James, a lifelong Mendocino County resident, and tribal member of the Manchester/Point Arena Band of Pomo Indians, will be giving a talk and power point presentation on various aspects of the history and culture of the Pomo.  White Wolf is currently working as the Native American Educator for the Grace Hudson Museum in Ukiah. He is an experienced storyteller, demonstrator, and lecturer who has worked on numerous museum projects and exhibitions.

As part of Living History Day, Saturday, May 3rd, 1pm to 4pm, White Wolf will delight audiences of all ages with his Native American storytelling skills.

Afterwards, you are invited to join him for a round of stick dice, also known as staves, to play walnut shell dice, or test your skills with a "buzz" toy and acorn tops. Bring the whole family for a truly fun and rewarding learning experience.
